Energy Performance Certificates (EPC)

Energy Performance Certificate (EPC)

What is an EPC?

An EPC or Energy Performance Certificate is a rating scheme that helps to summarise the energy efficiency of a building. The ratings go from A-G. The certificate that is produced also gives recommendations on how to increase your energy efficiency rating. The EPC is valid for 10 years or until any energy efficiency works are carried out on the property.

Why do I need one?

An EPC is a legal requirement to have when a building is rented, sold or newly constructed. It is important to have an up to date EPC for potential buyers and renters to view before your property is put on the market. A property must also have a rating of an E or higher to be legally rented out. From April 2021 buildings with existing tenancies must also have a rating of E or higher.

Do I already have one?

You can check if your property has an EPC and if it is up to date by simply clicking the button below and following the steps on the government website.
